Donation Questions

Tax Receipts

We automatically provides receipts for gifts of $10 or more or if requested.

Once we receive your donation, it takes up to 15 business days for us to issue your receipt and mail it to you. At peak times, like Christmas, it may take as long as three to six weeks for us to mail out your tax receipt.

Yes we can; however, it is much more efficient to complete your donation online if you’d like to receive your tax receipt in that manner.

We’d be happy to provide a replacement within 15 days of your request. Please contact us at accounting@lighthousemission.ca for assistance.

Tax receipts for monthly donations will be issued no later than the end of February of the following year.

If you have not received your tax receipt by the middle of March, you have moved, or you have misplaced the receipt and need a replacement, a duplicate tax receipt can be issued by contacting us at accounting@lighthousemission.ca.

As per Canada Revenue Agency rules, we cannot provide an official tax receipt for gifts of service. However, a gift of service may be eligible for receipting through a cheque exchange. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at accounting@lighthousemission.ca if you have questions.

As per Canada Revenue Agency rules, an official tax receipt is provided when the donor receives no benefit for the gift. A tax receipt may be provided for the difference between the gift and the value of the benefit received.

If the product/property is something we deems as necessary, the gift may be receipted.  Some gifts may require a valuation to determine the value of the tax receipt. Please contact us at accounting@lighthousemission.ca if you have questions.

We accept cash, cheque, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) and Visa Debit.

Yes we can take e-transfers to donations@lighthousemission.ca, however we ask that you also send us an email with your contact for tax receipts and the password for the donation 

Monthly Giving

We offer two convenient dates for you to choose to have your monthly donation withdrawn: the 1st and the 15th of each month.

Yes, we can suspend your gifts for a period of time. However, we will need written notice in order to process this request. Please note that an additional gift may go through if you cancel within five days of your next scheduled donation.

While these gifts may not be for everyone, we find they are very popular among many donors and raise thousands in support of our programs. If you do not wish to receive gifts in the mail, please contact our Donor Services department.

We do NOT exchange our donor lists with any organizations. 

You can contact the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) to request that your name appears on the DO NOT Contact List. Please note this takes several months to activate. You can call CMA at 1-866-580-3625.

If you donate to other charities and/or subscribe to any periodicals or magazines, please inform them directly as well and direct them not to trade or rent your name. This will help with the overall process.

Giving Options

Yes, we can accept the following types of gifts:

  • Gifts of property: personal and real estate
  • Financial products such as securities, RRIFs, insurance policies, etc.

These types of gifts can be made today, or deferred, such as a bequest. If you are thinking of making this type of gift, we strongly suggest you consult your financial advisor and speak with our staff to learn more about our policies and practices.

Yes, we accept all clothing donations and other household items. Visit our current needs for a list of items we can accept.
You can drop off items at 669 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB.

Yes, we accept all food donations.

No we do not. We maintain reserves equivalent to up to six months of our annual operating budget to minimize risk to our agency.

Yes, you can. In order to do so, you will need to provide our charitable registration number, 88925-0460-RR0001, when designating the gift.

To ensure we have your name and address so that we can thank you, please do not indicate that you want to remain anonymous when completing the gift form.

Yes, by law you can unsubscribe by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of your email. This unsubscribes you from email communication automatically.  If you need assistance, please contact our Donor Services department.
